Sustainability

Sustainability has always been an important part of how I approach my work. I studied environmental science and my day job focuses on decarbonization, so I spend a lot of time thinking about the environmental impact of the things we make, use, and consume. 

I try to carry that mindset into my pottery and printmaking practice. I'm thoughtful about the materials I choose, look for opportunities to reuse and source locally, and am always learning about ways I can reduce my impact. I don't consider my practice perfect, but I believe in being transparent about the materials I use, and continuously looking ways to to better. 

MY MATERIALS

CLAY: I primarily work with reclaimed clay purchased from Rain City Clay. Using reclaimed clay gives existing materials another life and helps reduce the need for newly sourced clay.

PAPER: For new paper, I choose paper made with materials from well-managed forests, recycled materials, and/or other controlled wood sources certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC).

RECLAIMED AND LOCAL MATERIALS: Whenever possible, I purchase supplies such as paper, beads, and other materials from Seattle ReCreative. Sourcing from a local creative reuse store allows me to give existing materials a second life while supporting reuse within my community.

ALWAYS LEARNING
